Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyers by Neighborhood
Feher Law represents California injury clients across Los Angeles County, with hyper-local experience in the following neighborhoods. Each page covers the specific court venue, hospital network, common accident patterns, and recent recovery data for that area.
FEATURED ON
Los Angeles County is home to nearly ten million people, the busiest freeway system in the state, the Port of Los Angeles, and the largest trauma network in Southern California. Injuries here come from freeway pileups, crowded crosswalks, construction sites, apartment stairwells, and rideshare trips, and the claims that follow are decided in Los Angeles County Superior Court. A Los Angeles personal injury lawyer at Feher Law investigates who caused the harm, finds the insurance that can pay, and pursues the full cost of your recovery. You pay nothing unless we win.
Key Takeaways
- Fault is shared, not all-or-nothing: under Li v. Yellow Cab Co. (1975) 13 Cal.3d 804, a Los Angeles victim who was partly at fault can still recover, with damages reduced by their percentage.
- The lawsuit deadline is generally two years under Code of Civil Procedure 335.1, but a claim against the City of Los Angeles, the County, Metro, or Caltrans must be presented within six months under Government Code 911.2.
- Venue is usually Los Angeles County Superior Court, and many civil cases are heard at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown.
- Thomas Feher has tried more than 45 cases to verdict, and the firm has recovered more than $170 million for California clients. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
- Feher Law takes Los Angeles injury cases on a contingency fee under a written agreement. There is no fee unless we recover for you.
Do You Have a Personal Injury Case in Los Angeles?
A Los Angeles injury claim rests on negligence. In plain terms, we have to show four things:
- A duty: the other party had to use reasonable care, as Civil Code 1714 requires of everyone.
- A failure: a driver who ran a light, an owner who ignored a hazard, a company that skipped maintenance.
- A link: that failure caused your injury.
- Harm: medical bills, lost income, pain, and the other losses the law recognizes.
Some cases are simpler. A dog owner is strictly liable for a bite under Civil Code 3342, and a manufacturer is strictly liable for a defective product.
Keep the two deadlines straight: two years to sue a private party under Code of Civil Procedure 335.1, and six months to present a written claim to a public entity under Government Code 911.2. If you are not sure which one applies to your accident, assume the shorter one and call.
Questions That Help Us Evaluate a Los Angeles Case
| Question | Yes | No |
|---|---|---|
| Were you injured due to someone else’s actions or negligence? | Yes | No |
| Did the accident result in medical treatment or related expenses? | Yes | No |
| Have you missed work or suffered financial losses because of your injuries? | Yes | No |
| Are you experiencing ongoing pain, emotional distress, or limitations in daily activities? | Yes | No |
| Did the accident in Los Angeles occur within the last two years? | Yes | No |
The ranges in this table are general illustrations and not a prediction of what any case is worth. Every case depends on its own facts, the evidence, the law that applies, and the insurance available. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome. This is not legal advice.
A “yes” to any of these questions is worth a conversation. We can usually tell you in one call whether the facts support a claim and what the next step is.
What a Los Angeles Injury Claim Can Recover
What a Los Angeles injury claim can recover depends on the injury and the evidence, but it generally falls into two groups:
- Economic losses: medical bills and future care, lost wages and earning capacity, and property damage. For past medical bills, California counts what was actually paid or owed, under Howell v. Hamilton Meats & Provisions, Inc. (2011) 52 Cal.4th 541.
- Non-economic losses: pain, emotional distress, disfigurement, and loss of enjoyment of life. Where several defendants share fault, each pays its own share of these under Civil Code 1431.2.
Punitive damages are available in a narrower set of cases, such as drunk driving, under Civil Code 3294.
A First Estimate of Your Claim
Our personal injury settlement calculator gives a first estimate from your medical costs, lost income, and share of fault. It is a starting point, not legal advice, and a lawyer can refine it once your treatment is documented.
The calculator offers a general estimate for a Los Angeles claim. It is not legal advice or a substitute for a lawyer's review of your records. The calculator provides a simplified estimation based on general inputs and does not account for the unique details of your case, including jurisdictional laws, liability factors, or other critical variables.
Why Los Angeles Clients Choose Feher Law
Los Angeles has thousands of injury lawyers. The ones who get results are the ones the insurers know will try a case. Here is what sets Feher Law apart:
- Trial record: Tom Feher has tried more than 45 cases to verdict, including seven- and eight-figure awards. Insurers price that in.
- Local knowledge: we know the difference between a CHP freeway report and an LAPD street report, which trauma centers keep which records, and how the downtown courthouse schedules cases.
- English and Spanish: our team works in both languages, which matters in a county where millions of residents speak Spanish at home.
- Recognition: Best Lawyers ranked the firm a Best Law Firm in 2024, and Tom Feher has been named a Super Lawyer each year from 2022 through 2026.
- No fee unless we win: a written contingency agreement, no upfront cost.

Why Acting Fast Protects Your Case
Two years is the general limit to sue under Code of Civil Procedure 335.1, and only six months to file a claim against a Los Angeles public entity under Government Code 911.2. The evidence has an even shorter life.
- Video from businesses, buses, and traffic cameras is routinely overwritten within days or weeks
- The City of Los Angeles and Caltrans repair road defects quickly, often before anyone photographs them
- Trauma center records and 911 recordings are easiest to obtain soon after the event
- Insurers press for recorded statements in the first days, when you are least prepared to give one

What Our Clients Say
Why California Clients Choose Feher Law
Super Lawyers 2022-2026 | Avvo 10.0 Superb | Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College Graduate
The Attorneys Who Handle Los Angeles Cases
Thomas S. Feher founded the firm on trial work. He has taken more than 45 cases to verdict, recovered more than $170 million for injured and wrongly treated Californians, and is a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College. Clients in Los Angeles work directly with him and the attorneys below, not a call center.
How a Los Angeles Personal Injury Case Moves Forward
Step 1 - Free Case Evaluation
We start with a free, confidential conversation. You tell us what happened, we review the police or incident report and your medical picture, and we tell you honestly whether the case is worth pursuing.
Step 2 - Locking Down the Evidence
Next we lock down the evidence: preservation letters to businesses and companies, reports from the CHP or LAPD, camera footage, witness interviews, and, when needed, accident reconstruction or medical experts.
Step 3 - The Demand and the Negotiation
When your treatment has stabilized, we send a demand that lays out liability and every category of loss, then negotiate with the insurer from the value of the case rather than its first offer.
Step 4 - Settle, or Try the Case
If the insurer will not pay a fair amount, we file in Los Angeles County Superior Court and prepare for trial. Most cases settle, but ours settle with a trial date on the calendar.
Step 5 - Your Recovery Is Paid
When the case resolves, your recovery is paid, our fee is taken from it under the written agreement, and you never pay out of pocket.
A Los Angeles Case Result
In White v. Koocherian, a driver turned left across the path of our client’s motor scooter on a Los Angeles street. She was thrown from the scooter and seriously hurt. We proved the turn violated the right-of-way rule and recovered compensation for her surgery, recovery, and lost work. Every case is different, and past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
Personal Injury Cases We Handle in Los Angeles County
We represent injured people across Los Angeles County in the following kinds of cases. Each links to a page about that type of claim in Los Angeles.
Loss of a Limb
Losing a limb changes work, home, and daily life for good. Our Los Angeles amputation lawyers price the case over a lifetime of prosthetics, therapy, and lost earning capacity. In one Los Angeles case, our client, a wheelchair-bound amputee with dementia who suffered a broken leg, was awarded $1.5 million for pain and suffering.
Traumatic Brain Injury
Brain injuries are often invisible on an early scan and obvious to the people who live with the patient. Our Los Angeles brain injury lawyers build proof from imaging, neuropsychological testing, and the accounts of family and coworkers.
CRPS and Chronic Pain
Complex regional pain syndrome is doubted by insurers because it does not show on an X-ray. Our Los Angeles CRPS lawyers prove it with the diagnosis, the timeline, and treating physicians.
Electrical Injuries
Electrical injuries involve burns, cardiac effects, and nerve damage, and often a utility, a landlord, or a contractor. Our Los Angeles electrocution lawyers identify who controlled the hazard and preserve the equipment.
Bicycle Collisions
Cyclists share Los Angeles streets with drivers who claim they never saw them. Our Los Angeles bicycle accident lawyers use video, witnesses, and the three-foot passing law to prove fault. In Simone v. Estate of Bruce Jameson, we won a $14.6 million verdict for a client who suffered a spinal injury after being hit while riding.
Car Accidents on Los Angeles Freeways and Streets
Car crashes are the most common injury case in Los Angeles County, and the insurance questions are often the hardest part. Our Los Angeles car accident lawyers find every policy that applies, including your own uninsured and underinsured coverage.
Dog Bites and Attacks
California holds dog owners strictly liable for bites. Our Los Angeles dog bite lawyers document scarring and long-term effects, especially for children, and pursue the owner’s homeowner’s or renter’s coverage.
Motorcycle Crashes
Riders face bias from adjusters and jurors. Our Los Angeles motorcycle accident lawyers confront it with reconstruction and evidence. In Soulliere v. Suzuki Motor Corp., we obtained a $9 million verdict in Orange County over motorcycles sold with defective front brakes.
Paralysis and Catastrophic Injury
Paralysis cases are about the future: attendant care, equipment, home modification, and lost earning capacity over decades. We work with life care planners and economists so that future is counted.
Pedestrians Hit by Vehicles
Los Angeles leads the state in pedestrian deaths, and the city’s own Vision Zero analysis found that about 6% of its streets account for about 65% of deaths and serious injuries involving people walking and biking. Our Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyers handle crosswalk, turning-vehicle, and hit-and-run cases. In a 2021 Los Angeles case, we obtained a $2 million settlement for a family struck while crossing the street; one plaintiff suffered a sprained knee and wrist avoiding the car, and a child sustained soft tissue injuries.
Unsafe Property
Owners and managers of apartment buildings, stores, parking structures, and hotels must keep them reasonably safe. Our Los Angeles premises liability lawyers focus on notice: what the owner knew and when.
Uber and Lyft Crashes
In an Uber or Lyft crash, which insurance pays depends on the driver’s app status at the moment of impact. Our Los Angeles rideshare accident lawyers secure the trip data and sort out the coverage.
Sexual Abuse and Assault
Survivors can hold both the abuser and the institution that failed to protect them responsible. Our Los Angeles sexual abuse lawyers work at your pace and keep the case as private as the law allows. Some older adult claims can be revived only until December 31, 2026.
Falls on Someone Else's Property
A fall case is won on video, inspection records, and prior complaints, all of which disappear fast. Our Los Angeles slip and fall lawyers send preservation letters the day we are hired.
Spinal Cord and Back Injuries
Spinal injuries are priced over a lifetime. Our Los Angeles spinal cord injury lawyers work with physicians, life care planners, and economists to present that future.
Truck and Big-Rig Crashes
The ports, the I-710, and the warehouse corridors make Los Angeles one of the busiest truck regions in the country. Our Los Angeles truck accident lawyers move first for the electronic logs and carrier records. In one Los Angeles case, a semi-truck driver’s negligence led to a $4 million settlement for our client.
We also handle assault and battery, boating, bus, burn, construction, drunk driving, product liability, and wrongful death claims for Los Angeles County clients.
| Claim Type | Key Legal Considerations | Common Damages Involved |
|---|---|---|
| Amputations | Permanent impairment, future care needs | Medical expenses, long-term care, pain and suffering |
| Brain Injuries | Severity of trauma, cognitive limitations | Rehabilitation costs, loss of earning capacity |
| Spine & Paralysis Injuries | Surgical intervention, lifelong impact | Ongoing medical care, diminished quality of life |
| Car & Motorcycle Accidents | Liability, insurance coverage | Medical bills, lost wages, property damage |
| Bicycle & Pedestrian Accidents | Driver negligence, visibility issues | Serious injury damages, future medical needs |
| Slip, Trip, and Fall Cases | Property owner responsibility | Medical treatment, lost income, pain and suffering |
| Dog Bites | Owner liability, scarring | Medical care, emotional distress |
| Rideshare & Truck Accidents | Multiple parties, commercial policies | High-value claims, long-term damages |
| Medical-Related Injuries | Standard of care, expert testimony | Case-specific damages, potential limitations |
| Sexual Abuse Claims | Institutional liability, survivor impact | Emotional distress, long-term trauma damages |
The ranges in this table are general illustrations and not a prediction of what any case is worth. Every case depends on its own facts, the evidence, the law that applies, and the insurance available. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome. This is not legal advice.
What a Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer Does for You
From the first call to the last payment, a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer carries the parts of the case you cannot manage while recovering:
- The investigation: reports, video, witnesses, experts, and preservation letters.
- The insurers: all communication, so nothing you say is used against you.
- The medical side: records, bills, liens, and the documentation of future care.
- The valuation: every category of loss, priced and supported.
- The courtroom: a lawsuit and trial when the offer is not fair.
We also keep you informed. You will know what is happening and why.
The First Week After an Accident in Los Angeles
The first week after an accident in Los Angeles shapes the claim:
- Get medical care the same day, even if you feel able to walk away. Delayed treatment is the insurer’s favorite argument.
- Get the report number: the CHP handles freeways, the LAPD and local police handle city streets.
- Photograph everything: vehicles, hazards, signs, signals, and your injuries.
- Collect names of witnesses and nearby businesses that may have cameras.
- Decline the other side’s recorded statement until you have counsel.
- Call us. The sooner we send preservation letters, the more evidence survives.
Where a Los Angeles Injury Lawsuit Is Filed
Personal injury lawsuits that arise in Los Angeles are generally filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The Stanley Mosk Courthouse at 111 North Hill Street downtown is the county’s main civil courthouse, and which courthouse hears a particular case depends on where it arose and how it is classified. Our attorneys litigate in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and understand how its judges handle personal injury cases, discovery timelines, and trial proceedings.
Most personal injury cases settle before trial, but our attorneys always prepare as if we are going to the courtroom. That reputation for trial readiness is one of the most effective negotiating tools an attorney can have.
California Rules That Shape Los Angeles Injury Cases
A few California rules shape nearly every Los Angeles injury case: comparative fault under Li v. Yellow Cab Co. (1975) 13 Cal.3d 804; the two-year and six-month deadlines; the rule that medical bills are measured by amounts paid or owed; several-only liability for non-economic damages under Civil Code 1431.2; and the bar on pain-and-suffering recovery for uninsured drivers under Civil Code 3333.4. We explain how each applies to your facts.
Damages Available Under California Law
Beyond medical bills and lost wages, a Los Angeles injury claim can include future medical care, lost earning capacity, property damage, pain and emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, and, for a spouse, loss of consortium. When someone has died, the family may bring a wrongful death claim under Code of Civil Procedure 377.60 for funeral expenses, lost financial support, and the loss of the relationship.
Unlike many states, California does not cap these damages in ordinary injury cases. The main exception is medical malpractice, where non-economic damages are limited to $470,000 for injury cases and $650,000 for wrongful death.
Deadlines for Los Angeles Injury Claims
The general deadline is two years from the injury under Code of Civil Procedure 335.1. If an injury was not reasonably discoverable right away, the clock may start on discovery. A minor’s time is generally paused until age 18, except for claims against a public entity, where the six-month claim requirement under Government Code 911.2 still applies.
What a Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer Costs
You pay nothing upfront. Feher Law handles Los Angeles injury cases on a contingency fee, written down before we start, and you owe no attorney’s fee if there is no recovery.
Where and How People Get Hurt in Los Angeles
Los Angeles has one of the largest and most congested road networks in the country. Interstates 405, 10, and 5, US-101, and the 110 carry heavy commuter and freight traffic through the city, and a dense grid of boulevards such as Wilshire, Sunset, Santa Monica, Olympic, Pico, Venice, Vermont, Western, Figueroa, and Crenshaw carries traffic, buses, pedestrians, and cyclists side by side.
The crash patterns we see most often in Los Angeles are:
Rear-end and merging crashes on the freeways in stop-and-go traffic, especially at rush-hour interchanges.
Left-turn and right-of-way crashes at large intersections along the boulevards, where drivers fail to yield to oncoming vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians.
Pedestrian and cyclist crashes in crosswalks and bike lanes on wide, fast streets.
Truck crashes on the freeways and surface streets that serve the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the rail yards, and the warehouses around downtown.
Rideshare crashes around nightlife areas and LAX.
The City of Los Angeles publishes a High Injury Network map through its Vision Zero program, which identifies the streets where a disproportionate share of severe and fatal crashes occur. If you were hurt on one of them, or anywhere else in Los Angeles, Feher Law can investigate the scene, request traffic camera and surveillance footage, obtain the collision report from the California Highway Patrol or the Los Angeles Police Department, and build a case establishing fault.
Injuries We See in Los Angeles Cases
The injuries we see most in Los Angeles cases, and what makes each one hard:
- Traumatic brain injury: the CDC counts roughly 223,000 hospitalizations a year linked to TBI, and many start as a “mild” concussion that was never scanned.
- Spinal disc injuries: herniated and bulging discs after rear-end crashes are the most disputed injuries in the business; insurers call them pre-existing.
- Fractures: surgery, hardware, and months away from work.
- CRPS: chronic pain that follows an injury and is routinely doubted.
- Paralysis and catastrophic injury: cases that require experts and a firm with the resources to fund them.
