Man Killed in Santa Clarita Crash on 5 Freeway

SANTA CLARITA, CA (January 6, 2026) — A 50-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Santa Clarita, California Highway Patrol officials confirmed.

According to the CHP, officers responded shortly after 3 a.m. to the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at Magic Mountain Parkway, where they discovered a collision involving a box truck, a gold Toyota Camry, and a semi-trailer. The crash blocked multiple lanes of traffic, and the box truck overturned during the incident.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and determined that one person had suffered fatal injuries. The victim was later identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as Edwin Oscanoa Vicuna. No additional information about other injuries was released.

The collision caused significant disruption along the freeway as authorities worked to secure the scene and conduct their initial response. CHP officers remained in the area for several hours while the roadway was cleared.
