Slip & Fall – Back Injury Settlement

An elderly woman suffered chronic and debilitating low back pain after slipping and falling in the bathroom of her hotel room in California in January 2020. Hotel bathrooms are one of the most common locations for slip and fall accidents – wet floors, inadequate non-slip surfaces, and improperly maintained tile all create hazardous conditions, and elderly guests face greater risk of serious injury when these falls occur.

Back injuries are among the most painful and persistent consequences of slip and fall accidents. Chronic low back pain can limit mobility, disrupt sleep, and make even basic daily activities – standing, walking, bending, and sitting – difficult and painful. For an elderly woman, these limitations can significantly impact independence and quality of life in ways that are difficult to fully quantify.

Under California premises liability law, hotels have a duty to maintain all guest rooms – including bathrooms – in a reasonably safe condition, with adequate non-slip surfaces and properly maintained flooring. Feher Law pursued the claim and secured an $850,000 settlement, holding the California hotel accountable for the slip and fall that caused our client’s chronic back injuries.
